SUSTAINABLE DESIGN COLLABORATIVE ATLANTA (SDCA) is looking for our next Community Service Project for 2021!
We are an all-volunteer organization with our members representing diverse building community organizations including: AIA Atlanta, IIDA Georgia, CSI Atlanta, USGBC Georgia and CMAA. Each member of our team is a sustainable-minded professional. We are connected by our desire to provide schematic design solutions to the nearly 98% of non-profit communities who otherwise may not be able to fund these types of services.
We began in 2010 and generally complete one pro-bono project each year. We works side by side with the selected organization to create a vision and plan for execution of their project.
(Visit www.sdcatlanta.org/projects.html for examples of previous projects).
Historically, our project organizations have a strong root in progressing sustainability and enhancing our local community.
The Core Values of our organization are that…
  1. We believe that Sustainability is the foundation of what we do.
  2. We use an integrated approach to inform our designs.
  3. We empower communities and individuals.
  4. We are dedicated to diversity.
  5. We play as a team to give voice to ideas.
The objective of this Request for Proposal is to locate an Atlanta based, growing, non-profit with a dynamic new project source that will provide the best overall value to SDCA. While the type of project is a significant factor, other criteria will form the basis of our award decision, as more fully described in the Evaluation Factors section of this Request for Proposal below.
Submission.
If you are interested in receiving services for your upcoming Project, please submit to SDCA a formal response in accordance with this RFP. SDCA anticipates selecting at least two non-profit groups to have more in-depth discussions with and will make an award to one of these selected groups. All proposals must be signed by a representative that is authorized to represent the non-profit.
Make Formal RFP submission To:
Brent Redmon, SDCA Chairman: [email protected] / [email protected]

Sustainable Design Collaborative Atlanta 2020 Statement

7/24/2020

Sustainable Design Collaborative Atlanta has been a partnership of volunteers for since 2011 and served as leaders from each of our respective trade organizations. I have read all of the respective trade organizations ‘statements of purpose’ on the recent events and would be in grave error to try to write something more meaningful and/or eloquent than those.
What I will offer you is to remind you of something we have always been successful at – understanding the full power of the word Sustainable. We have always taught ourselves to expand the meaning of that word from design to connections to community and held each other accountable in that goal. It is prudent now that we remember that Sustainable also carries with it the characteristics of diversity, equity, unity and kindness.
In that line of thinking, I would expect that all of you will use your voice of leadership in your sphere of influence with both colleagues and friends to champion how our brand of Sustainable can be a part of your conversations. Use your voice to clearly identify problems and then craft complete solutions that enable those around you to do more, do better and do the most good. We at SDCA are all continually growing and learning. In an effort to lead with action and support, we will strive to take action on the areas listed below to continue leading through an expanding inclusive, diverse, and equity-driven approach. We will:
  • Prioritize diversity in our board representatives.
  • Ensure project teams are composed of members of diverse backgrounds and in keeping with our inclusive approach.
  • Ensure leadership positions in project teams are composed of diverse members representing a range of race, preference, age and professional background.
  • Honor the cultural and historical significance of each organization we support by including this representation of information in our project deliverables, education, and outreach of the project.

“Information developed becomes knowledge – Knowledge with experience becomes wisdom
– Wisdom results in a better built (Sustainable) environment. [CSI PDPG 2018]”

Thank You.

Hello, Friends of SDC-Atlanta!
We hope everyone had a safe and fun Snow Day last Saturday. Due to that day's heavy snowfall,
we've rescheduled 2020's charrette to Saturday, March, 7, 2020 from 9 AM - 4 PM.

Picture
Thank you so much for your interest in SDCA’s 2020 collaborative project with the Barrow County School Systems, ArtsNow, and the Barrow Community Foundation. We’d love it if you can still join us for this exciting endeavor. During past charrettes, we have broken out into teams: architecture/interiors, landscape/exterior, systems. After the design charrette, the teams usually coordinate internally to finesse designs and deliverables for the book. So if you are unavailable to attend the charrette but would still like to be part of this project, there will be plenty of opportunities.

The charrette will be taking place at the Center for Innovative Teaching, 84 W Midland Ave, Winder, GA 30680, and the session will be roughly broken down like this:
  • Introductions
  • Overview of the project goals and programming needs
  • Collaboratively decide building entrances and access control
  • Break out into groups: architecture/interiors, landscape/exterior, systems
  • Lunch (provided)
  • Discuss each group’s design proposal
  • Arrive at design consensus
  • Discuss next steps
Please bring some inspiration images and any tools you feel will be helpful to the process.
